Cascais, Portugal
The proposal for the contemporary Art Center, located in Fortress of Cresmina in Cascais, has the intention to tempt the visitor to discover this place. Nothing is revealed immediately, nor the sculpture garden nor the museum. The path is set like a succession of several spaces that accompany the viewer in a place where the sea view is privileged, exalting and making it the protagonist of moving pictures. The perimeter of the museum comes from the perimeter of the existing walls of the fortress. This is to enhance the existing but, at the same time, to experience how the shape of the fortress can lead to the genesis of the museum.
The inner courtyard of the museum, where all the spaces of the museum overlook, is the only place where the sea view is deliberately denied. Here, in the courtyard, the viewer has the possibility to feel the presence of the sea through the other human sense. You can hear the sound of ocean waves; the sea breeze caress the skin of the visitor and bring the smell of the sea.
