Helsinki in questo momento ha l’opportunità di cambiare le regole dell’architettura, che da qualche decennio sono fondate sull’originalità e sul gesto formale. Il risultato di questa metodologia è la realizzazione di edifici che perseguono un unico obiettivo: sopravvalere, con la loro immagine estroversa, sull’immagine dell’intera città. La realizzazione del Guggenheim Museum, al porto di Helsinki, porterebbe ad una sbagliata messa a fuoco delle reali necessità della città.

Helsinki in this moment has the opportunity to overturn the rules of architecture, which for many decades are been dictated from the originality of the gestures architect. The result has been the birth of new buildings around the world with a unique purpose: stand above the beauty of the entire city. The construction of the Guggenheim Museum, in Helsinki, would lead at this city a probable loss of focus on the context and the places that it has. After all, why should have Helsinki a Guggenheim Museum? To follow the nowadays trends? Doing so, it would be just another town infected by a new building that aspires to originality and the only desire is to stand out in the context. At this point, the question directed to the en- tire city is the follow: why the image of Helsinki must be linked to a landmark? If we talk about the city, the project for the upgrading of the South Harbor must be something else. Citizens must demand a project that can bring out the image of places, streets and the historic architectural core of Helsinki.

I cittadini dovrebbero richiedere un progetto che sappia estrapolare il linguaggio architettonico di Helsinki, affinché si possa aver una rielaborazione dei caratteri delle strade, dei luoghi e della storia che costituisce il cuore di Helsinki.
